THIS AP REPORT has a couple interesting bits.

First, after an ambush that killed 12 Israeli security personnel, "Army commanders urged settler leaders to prevent vigilante action." I wish the PA issued statements similar to this. All they seem to say is that they don't condone such-and-such after it's happened.

Second, at the end of the article we get this little gem:

One of the flashpoints is the Tomb, where the biblical Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are buried. Jewish settler Baruch Goldstein killed 29 Muslim worshippers in February 1994 before being beaten to death there. The massacre sparked riots that lasted for days and helped spawn the phenomenon of suicide bombings against Israelis.

So, one ultra-right wing wacko's violent, misguided rampage helped create suicide bombings? What a joke. I wonder if the reporter realizes that Hevron was the location of one of the earliest massacres of Jews in Palestine under the British mandate. How come we don't see Jewish suicide bombers?
